Freshman Brynnley Fuller isn’t just an amazing student and friend  - she is also an amazing shooter. Brynnley has been shooting for  just over two years on the CCA trap team. Shooting must be  something that runs in the family, as her great grandpa used to  shoot a lot, and has always been an inspirational person that she  looks up to. One of her biggest achievements in her two years  has been shooting a 49/50 at a competition, a near perfect

score, outshooting all the varsity shooters from every  other team. Another exciting accomplishment was being ranked  second overall in the state for her level. While Iowa isn’t known  for amazing shooters, this is an insane achievement that anyone  would feel extremely proud of.

When asked what motivates her, Brynnley responded with,  “Part of what motivates me to keep going is all of the people who tell  me I can't, that I'm not good enough, the people in question usually  being me, but I just remember being a seventh grader, how much I looked up to older kids, how much I learned from them, and wanting to be that person for somebody.” As someone that gets to see Brynnley shoot, I can proudly say she has definitely become that person for multiple young shooters. Her biggest goal for this season is to place in the top five at state, and while she knows it will be a challenge shooting against about two hundred other girls in her division, she says, “Hey, if my great grandpa could do it, why can't I?”

Brynnley mentioned that one of the hardest parts is the cold. Unless there are active thunderstorms or the temperature is below freezing, trap members are highly encouraged to shoot outside during the official season. Another struggle is the early mornings. For home meets, athletes are required to be at the range at 7:45, and with a commute of just over twenty minutes that means Brynnley is typically waking up at 6AM. On the other side of things, Brynnleys favorite part of trap is the community aspect of it. She states, “It's more than just a sport to us. We have cookouts, breakfasts, pizza days, and banquets. And the way everyone is always there for eachother, boosting good moods, and raising bad ones.”

Brynnley is an amazing person and I’ve personally seen her work through some really tough times. Like top athletes in other sports she is incredibly dedicated, and especially when it gets hard she comes back more determined that last time. Trap shooting has so many little components and Brynnley had learned to master some of the most intricate details in just two short years. Myself and the coaches hope to see her continue to grow, and if you know an athlete as dedicated as Brynnley, make sure to let them know that someone recognizes all their hard work.
