Winter cheer is an activity that combines cheerleading with different sports: wrestling and basketball. March marks the end of this season, with the following wonderful girls participating: Kailee Carver, Emerald Johnson, Macy Pierce, Kenna Small, Kennah Prosser, Shauntai Burton, Bella DiLorenzo (both basketball and wrestling cheer), Emersyn Gavin Hiatt (basketball cheer), Ireland Johnson, and Abby McNiel (wrestling cheer).

This year was especially important for our seniors, Emerald Johnson and Shauntai Burton, as they celebrated their senior night recently. When asked what it meant to stay positive even in moments of sadness, the members expressed their hope to continue doing what they love until their senior year.

When we asked team captain Emerald about her cheerleading experience during her high school career, this was her response: “I would describe my cheerleading experience as definitely eye-opening. Cheerleading has been like family to me all four years. I have learned so many amazing life lessons from not only the coaches but also the girls. It has been my favorite part of high school. I 100% wouldn’t change anything if I had the option to.” She will truly be missed, as her story is quite remarkable. Emerald became captain around her sophomore year and has held that position ever since. Emerald plans to enlist in the National Guard and attend the University of Iowa for early childhood education with endorsements in English, mathematics, and athletic coaching, and a minor in religious studies. The end of this season was truly heartwarming, and we hope the girls continue to represent our school in the wonderful way they do!
