A dozen members of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and their adviser and business education teacher Laurel Keenan have been hard at work planning for this year’s prom dance, meeting nearly every week since December 2025. Prom is May 2 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott in University Heights.
“Through organizing prom, students gain valuable hands-on experience in marketing, finance, and event management,” Keenan said.

Keenan oversees the prom planning committee that meets every Tuesday during advisory. The committee chooses the theme, organizes decorations, creates and schedules social media content, and works out all of the details that go into the event.
The grand march is to take place on May 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school Performing Arts Center. Parents, family members, and friends are invited to see students dressed their best for their special night.
The junior and senior prom court will be announced at the grand march. Seniors will also have the opportunity to vote for prom king and queen, which will be announced at the grand march as well.
University Heights was chosen as the venue for the prom dance to make the experience more memorable and elevated for students, Keenan said. From the rooftop ballroom, beautiful sights of Iowa City and Kinnick Stadium can be seen.
There will be photo opportunities for students to capture memories, including a photo booth and photo backdrops.

Prom Re-Run is accepting donations of gently used formal apparel for high school students to wear to prom such as suits, vests, dress pants, ties, scarves, head wraps, dresses, shoes, clothes hangers, and garment bags throughout the first two weeks of March at various donation drop-off locations and times. The community-driven program will host a pick-up event for high schoolers to select donated items for free on Saturday, March 14, at the Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center Social Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. More information can be found at icgov.org.
Tickets for prom will be available for purchase in April and will cost $25. The prom committee posts updates on their Instagram @ccahsprom which announced the prom theme as The Golden Age of Hollywood.
Students registered for prom can expect to be sent a form in April to submit their song requests for the dance.
Post prom will be from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. at Clear Creek Amana High School, following the dance. Activities are still being discussed by the CCA Post Prom Committee but there will be food, gifts, and guest entertainment for students, the committee says.
The CCA Post Prom Committee consists of over a dozen CCA parents and guardians that have volunteered to be responsible for organizing the event. Hollie Pfeiffer and Jennelle McCusker are Co-Chairs of the committee. Planning began in December 2025.
The committee currently meets at Casa Tequila in Tiffin. The meetings are held the second Monday of each month and are open to any and all CCA parents and guardians wanting to get involved. Anyone interested in helping is welcome to join and follow the CCA Post Prom Facebook page for the most current updates.
This is Co-Chair Pfeiffer's second year helping to organize the post prom. “If we want activities like post prom to happen, people just need to step up. I'm glad I did, but there were a lot of people that made last year's post prom a success,” she said. “We will need many more people to help this year.”
The post prom will be held at the high school because the other venues the committee was interested in had already been booked.
Last year, post prom was free for juniors and seniors to attend after the dance and students were responsible for filling out a form. This year, whether or not students will need to pay for tickets for post prom is still being discussed. Pfeiffer says the goal is to keep costs for students to a minimum.
Funds for post prom are raised through several fundraisers and the committee welcomes donations. The first fundraiser, a mother-song game day and father-daughter dance, took place on Feb. 28 at Clear Creek Elementary school. A middle school dance is to take place on March 27. Monetary donations can be sent to CCA Post Prom, PO Box 45, Tiffin, IA 52340. These funds help cover the expenses and are what allows post prom to be affordable for students.
The CCA Post Prom Committee’s mission is to provide high school students a “fun and safe activity to do after the dance” that enhances their overall prom experience.
