CCA’s speech team has had a great season so far, with twelve of our teams qualifying for state and 7 teams qualifying for All-State this year. The team of over 50 people have been working hard on their performances since November and have showcased their work at many competitions, state speech, and soon the qualifying groups will perform at All-State. The members of speech have had great performances this season and have enjoyed showcasing their passion at many events across the state.
“Being able to stand up in front of my friends and family and show off something I’ve worked super hard towards is very meaningful, and I love watching everyone else show off what they’ve been working on!”

Junior Sasha Robinson, a member of the speech team, has shared her experience with speech and why she’s passionate about it. Sasha participates in ensemble speech, where a group of at least 2 through 6 members perform a 15 minute memorized scene. This year she performs with two other people in her ensemble. The fun of performing, showing off her hard work, and seeing other people’s performances that they spent time on is what makes speech season Sasha’s favorite time of year. Speech does get stressful for her at times, but the stress and work always pays off in the end. This was true especially at her first speech showcase. Before the showcase, Sasha felt the pressure of performing for the first time. She felt that she needed to truly honor the piece that she was performing with her group, which made her afraid and very nervous, but once she stepped on stage all the pressure lifted. Her feelings of fear left her once she remembered she was on stage with the people she loved, doing what she loved. She forgot all of her nerves and focused on putting on a great performance with the people she loved. This experience, she says, is her most defining moment in her speech career. Experiences like these are the reason Sasha loves and stays in speech, with the feelings of joy, pride, and accomplishment that come with performing. The impact speech has made on her is huge, making her more resilient and strong when put under pressure and faced with challenges. She’s also met wonderful people who changed her life through speech. Without speech, Sasha would be a much different person and she’s very grateful for it.
