Clear Creek Amana High School’s Student Council, led by Mrs. Moore, continues the wonderful tradition of Sponsor a Family. A yearly event where the majority of our school’s Student Council meets at Target on a Sunday morning at 7 AM. This event is a wonderful opportunity for people to learn whether Student Council is for you or not. For this event the council splits into groups and is assigned different families. To be a sponsored family, families fill out the request sheet to participate. This process is completely anonymous; the Student Council has no possible way of knowing who the families are. The only details described are the age, number of family members, and if wanted, gender. The list is split into sections, each member of the family, and a miscellaneous/family sections. Not only does the committee buy presents, but they wrap them as well, making the Christmas spirit come alive.

In an interview with Student Council representatives, Vice President Alex Schrage, and Treasurer Rachel Mundt were asked a few questions. These questions include what they enjoyed most about Sponsor a Family, how they felt about helping families in our community, and if there was something they would change to improve the annual event. Schrage quotes, “I love everything about the event.” She says this because “There is such a great atmosphere and everyone in student council has such a good attitude and excitement around Sponsor a Family.” Schrage goes on to say that “Having the opportunity to get families presents and toys that they might not have been able to get before is such a great feeling and it's even for people in our community!” In essence this event highlights Student Council’s “#1 goal”. Mundt agrees stating, “I really enjoy being able to go shopping and pick out things for other people and not just myself.” She goes on to say that one of her favorite parts is getting “to wrap the gifts, listen to Christmas music, and just hangout together!” Mundt loves does this because “It makes me feel good knowing that I am actively contributing to making a difference in my community, and helping those that need it.” Their true appreciation and joy for Sponsor a Family shows why they were our elected leaders. Schrage and Mundt both agree that there's something so rewarding about serving our community.

Both Mundt and Schrage believe Mrs. Moore does an amazing job creating this event every year, and there’s not a single thing they’re willing to change. Schrage states, “I truly wouldn't change a thing.” In addition to this Schrage says “I think everyone should think about joining student council not just for this event but for everything that student council does.” Ultimately Student Council would not be the amazing organization that it is without Mrs. Moore because “she does a really good job!”
