Tay Seals, Sophomore, Wide Receiver and Cornerback is off to a great start this season. Seals spent some time sharing about his progress thus far.
How would your coaches and teammates describe you? “
I think most of my coaches would describe me as responsive. If I miss an assignment at practice or something, I try to make it my goal never to make that mistake again.”
What do you believe is the greatest challenge you’ve faced this season?
“So far I think everything has been going well, being a little undersized I definitely have to rely on my speed more, but I usually never let that affect my play.”
With you being a sophomore, what is one thing you want to accomplish before the season ends?
“I would like to be ranked high in our district, there’s a lot of good competition we still have yet to play and I’m excited to see what’s in store for us.”
Why are you so passionate about playing?
“Football’s always just been a love of mine since I was a kid, team sports, in general, are always much larger than people see on the surface. Once you step outside your little bubble and start working with your team, you know we’ve got it.”
How does our team’s relationship off the field translate later on the field?
“Playing defense especially, it’s nice 100% trusting the guy next to you to know what he’s doing, and having a close bond off the field just makes that easier.”
What is one thing that keeps you completely motivated?
“It’s a grind every day for sure, but I would say knowing that the guy next to me is beat up too, and that if we just keep at it, it’ll pay off on Friday nights.”
How do you deal with pre-game/during-game nerves/ Do you usually get any?
“I usually just keep calm and remember the fundamentals, I feel like when there's a lot of pressure you start to think a lot but with the preparation we’ve gotten it’s better to just go fast, trust your keys, and not overthink it too much.”
Knowing your track background, how does speed translate onto the field?
“Everyone’s heard the phrase, ‘Speed kills’, I feel like speed is important no matter what position, sport, and track helped me improve my form and emphasize running your feet and driving. “
