The National Honor Society is an organization who recognizes students who are outstanding in the four pillars of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. But what does it truly mean to a member of NHS? National Honor Society Sponsor Alyssa Amelon said, “Students in Clear Creek Amana NHS are students who value the four pillars and lead by example.” It requires members to do a minimum of 10 service hours per year and keep both a good character and good grades.

High School social studies teacher, Adam Szurkowski, said that “NHS is the most prestigious organization you can become a part of at a high school because it requires good grades but high character and leadership skills”. In addition, he believes that members should be seen as the leaders throughout the high school and it is their responsibility to lead in a certain way. The induction ceremony was held on the evening of February 15th at Clear Creek Amana High School.
Szurkowski spoke at the ceremony and was honored with the award of “The Most Influential Teacher of the Year”. He went on to state that it meant a lot to him because "Teachers put in a lot of work and to hear that from the students was very meaningful”. Congratulations to both the many new NHS member inductees and Adam Szurkowski, you all did great!
