I interviewed Cam Stockman the Girls golf coach with a few questions for this season. First question was, How do you anticipate the season going this year? Stockman says, “I think we are in line to have another good year this year. We lost 2 of our top 6 golfers, so we need to have some girls step-up their games this season, but I know a few girls put some time in this summer on improving their games, so I'm hoping we pick-up where we left off last year. We were able to qualify for state last year for the 1st time in school history, so I want to try and get back again this year.” Second I asked him, What are you looking forward to? “I'm just looking forward to getting out to the course and getting our season started. There have been several years in the past that we haven't been able to get out to the course the first week or 2 of practice because of the weather, but we are going to be able to get out there right away this year. The weather is always a little volatile, but the fact that the course is open already will allow us to actually get out there to practice and improve.”

Question 3 was, Are there any golfers that stand out in your mind that you would like to give a shout-out to? Or a team shout-out?

Brooklyn Lee qualified for state as an individual last year, and ended up placing 15th. I'm sure she is looking to get back up there to see if she can improve on her finish, and at least crack the top 10 which qualifies her for "Allstate". I'm hoping Gwen Dao, Elise Berry and Liahna Malin will help fill the void left by some seniors who graduated last year, as I know they worked on their game some this summer.¨ Lasly was there Any general information you feel people need to know about the season? Stalkmen says, “Our first meet is April 7th at Grinnell. Our home meets are at Amana Colonies golf course on April 21st, April 22nd, and April 28th (start time = 4:00). Spectators are welcome and encouraged to come out and support our team at the beautiful Amana Colonies Golf course.”

I also interviewed Izzy Mooney a member of the girls golf team with a few questions, Izzy said, “Hopefully this season is successful, hoping our hard work can get us to state again this year, I am excited to spend my final season with my favorite team and just make memories. Brooklyn Lee deserves a shout out for her hard work and dedication to this sport, she has helped all of us tremendously.”

Boys Golf

I interviewed Cory siders the assistant coach of boys golf with a few questions for the new season:

How do you anticipate the season going this year?

“I think this season will be full of competition, both within our program and against other schools. We have a lot of new golfers this year, with a record 13 freshmen out for golf. This season will provide a lot of new opportunities for our golfers and new successes!”

What are you looking forward to?

“I am looking forward to seeing all of the golfers compete and improve throughout the season. Golf is the toughest sport to consistently improve at, but I am looking forward to watching everyone improve.”

Are there any golfers that stand out in your mind that you would like to give a shout-out to? Or a team shout-out?

“I will give a shout-out to all of the new golfers we have this year! Golf is a fun sport, but very difficult to be good at. However, the entire team is choosing to compete in a sport that will be part of their lives for a long time to come!”
