ADVANTAGEOUS AP CLASSES AT CCA

CCAHS has a wide variety of classes to offer, including classes other schools may not offer at all. These classes offer students advantages to broaden their interests and courses of studies in the future. Taking an advanced placement class is one way students can do college classes in a high school setup while earning credits for both. AP classes help high schoolers take a more difficult class to broaden their knowledge at a faster pace. CCA currently has six AP classes offered to students at the school: AP Language, AP Literature, AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, AP US History, and AP Biology. Many students may wonder how the school decides what AP classes can be offered.  After talking to Mr. Daniel and Mr. Reisinger, teachers will offer themselves up to teach a specific AP class, or if a group of six or more students will want to take a specific class, they may talk to a teacher who would agree to teach the class. The teacher would be trained to qualify to teach this class, then the class would be added to the program of studies. If the class acquires enough students for it to be offered as an official class, the school creates the schedules for this new class. But if a class doesn't garner enough interest from the students or have enough participants, it sadly fades into the background till the next year. With registrations for the 2027 school year, you may be stumped on what classes to take or if you should take higher level classes. I can’t answer those questions for you, but I'm very glad to inform you of all the new opportunities the school has to offer for this coming year. There are many new classes being offered. The classes that are to be potentially offered next school year are: AP Physics, AP Seminar, AP Art History, and AP Government. These classes can help students to work to their goals no matter what field they choose, giving them background even before they officially enroll into this work sector.

AP Art History is part of these classes, and we’ve conducted an interview with Mrs. Beckley, who will be teaching this. She gave an overview on what this class will be like and how it will be constructed. This class will be offered during the 2026-2027 school year. This class is a year-long class for students who are “seeking to develop critical visual analysis skills, broaden global perspective, and earn college credit,’’ as she emphasized during the interview. This class is fast-paced and content heavy, covering 250 specific, diverse artworks from prehistory to the present, which would require a great deal of memorization and analytical writing skills. The curriculum is structured into 10 units with a rough estimate of one to two weeks spent on a unit. This would require an extensive amount of reading outside of class. In-class time will be devoted to discussions and hands-on activities. The class is structured so the students can foster an in-depth understanding of art history from a global perspective. Its goal is to learn and interpret art as reflections of society and how its role affects the human experience.

This is one of the many interesting classes being offered at the school. If you are interested in any of these classes, just swing by the counselor's office and they will provide a description of the class and all the information you need before taking it.
