Every high school in the United States has a graduation rate. Most graduation rates are really high, some are in the middle and very few are way off the charts. Clear Creek-Amana, a fast growing rural school district, which spans from the Amana Colonies to Coralville, has a really high graduation rate, which is good news. Clear Creek Amana’s graduation rates are on the rise!
Mr. Hruby is Clear Creek Amana High School’s assistant principal. He has worked for the district for two years and was thrilled to share about the recent rise in graduation rates. Hruby explained that the graduation rate of the Clear Creek-Amana School District is higher than what it was during the 2024-2025 school year, and was the highest since the 2019-2020 school year. During his time of sharing, Mr. Hruby was asked about who he thought impacted the graduation rate in terms of teachers. According to Mr. Hruby, “everybody plays a part.” He further explained that even though core classes have a big impact, exploratories play their role as well. It is clear that the high school’s team based approach to learning is paying off.

Another component of the rise in graduation rates could possibly be attributed to the student to teacher ratio at the high school. Mr. Hruby said, “our ratios are average” when compared to the overall state of Iowa. However, he also added that lowering the student to teacher ratio is always a goal of the school and district. If the student to teacher ratio can continue to improve, it would be interesting to see if the graduation rate continues to rise.
Finally, it is worth noting that the Clear Creek Amana Community School District has been growing rapidly since 2011, due to growth in North Liberty, Tiffin and Coralville. It is exciting to think about the future of this area and the school district.
