FFA is a way to prepare future generations for the challenges of feeding a growing population. You also learn about careers in agriculture. It helps improve your communication skills and teaches you responsibility. In FFA, you can participate in many events and shows. There are academic competitions, traveling, connections to agriculture, and more.
FFA will help you develop talent, and you'll have hands-on experience with many different things. When participating in FFA, you get a chance to attend the national convention. The FFA National Convention is held in Indianapolis, Indiana.
This year, the convention took place from October 23rd to October 26th. The schedule for October 23rd included Opening Session 1A, competitive events, a shopping mall, delegate events, student and teacher workshops, career success tours, a student showcase stage, award recognition ceremonies, FFA for All experiences, a concert, and a rodeo. The activities started at 3:30 PM. A rodeo is held every evening at the convention to wrap up the night.
At Clear Creek Amana High School, Hannah Gross, a senior, and Tate Riggan, a sophomore, were interviewed about their experiences in FFA over the years. The first question was, What's your favorite part of FFA?
Hannah said, “My favorite part of FFA is representing my school at competitions and conventions. It is a huge honor to succeed on behalf of my chapter, and I love every minute of it.”
Tate said, “My favorite part of FFA has been having the opportunity to represent my school at a very high level.”
The second question was, What is one thing Ms. Amelon has taught you that has stuck with you?
Tate responded, “Ms. Amelon has taught me to take any opportunities that I can.”
Hannah said, “The value of hard work! Nobody will do the work for you, and she has helped me, as well as others, learn the importance of getting things done and doing them to the best of my ability.”
They were also asked what events they participate in.
Hannah said, “I competed on the National Ag Sales team. I also compete in dairy judging, poultry judging, and floriculture. I learn so much every year!”
Tate said, “Some of the events that I am involved in include livestock judging, dairy judging, conduct of meetings, cattle and sheep exhibition, and soil judging.”
The FFA teacher, Ms. Alyssa Amelon, shared her perspective on FFA: “Students enrolled in an agriculture class may join the Clear Creek Amana FFA. The FFA is a national youth leadership organization that focuses on making a positive difference in the lives of others through leadership opportunities, career development events, and agriculture education. Monthly meetings are held at the high school, and students can participate in a wide variety of local, district, and state-level contests.”
