PRESSURE OF FUTURE DECISIONS

Oftentimes, throughout high school, the future may seem very far away from us. But this graduation is the class of 2026, and then it will be 2027, and then 2028. Even though it is overwhelming, we need to know that sometimes it’s okay to choose another path. It is what best fits you.

Community college is one of those that sometimes is not even thought of–but in reality, it is a very logical path for those who want to save a little money. There are many different options in Iowa based on what traits you want to make stronger. The different options range from the classic Kirkwood (large scale option), Des Moines Area Community College (the largest one), Western Iowa Tech Community College (best by career) etc. Also, choosing to go to college is an acceptable decision. Society oftentimes makes us believe in toxic productivity, and that a college degree is the only way to succeed, and even though it might make the path lighter it still comes with the drawbacks. If you feel comfortable choosing that path, don’t let anyone make you doubt yourself!
“When I was a freshman and sophomore, I was constantly worried about time passing me by and not knowing what I would do when I graduate from high school. But through job shadows, a summer camp, and an internship I have really explored journalism and I’m now very confident that this is the right field for me to go into,” Julieta Ortiz, class of 2026, said.
“It all started coming together naturally at the end of my junior year and throughout my senior year, which I’m really thankful for. Now looking back I realize I really didn’t need to be that worried about it. This fall she will be attending the University of Iowa to study Journalism and Mass Communication.
And remember, you can always start over. You can fail and try again, that’s what life is about, don’t wear yourself out over things you can’t change.
