Football under the Friday night lights is a fall tradition that everyone knows and loves. Going to the games with friends, buying popcorn, and cheering for your school is a rite of passage in high school. This season, our school’s football team started off strong, building momentum from last year. On August 29, they set a new school record with an incredible 63–0 victory over Davenport West. The following week, on September 5, they defeated Davenport North 51–6, bringing their record to 2–0. Since that moment, the Clippers have found themselves fighting hard to make their commitment to one another show up in the win column. The team currently holds a 2–3 record.

Coach Peterson shared shout-outs for players who have been making a major impact. Quarterback Conlan Poynton, returner and receiver Tay Seals, and returner/defensive back Ethan Vice have been key to the team’s success. Other standout performances include Aidan Schrock, who grabbed a pick-six last game and who also dominates on the offensive line; Ian Kelley, who has been a powerhouse in the middle of the defense; and Aren Schlemme, who had a breakout performance as a receiver in the second week of September.

Thank you to our football team for giving us so much to cheer about. Good luck the rest of the season—keep making us proud!
