Are you interested in the idea of debating? Taking a stand on one opinion and having to rationally defend it against a completely opposing one? You might be interested in the future debate club!

Since my Freshman year, I remember being interested in joining a club that had these dynamics—but sadly, these options didn't exist. So, I proposed the idea of this club now. The process began in early October, looking for people who might be interested in participating or becoming a sponsor. Currently, October 1st, as I’m writing this, the process hasn't advanced much.

My idea for this club is to expand on traits: how to speak loudly in front of a jury/audience; critical thinking, producing certain arguments in a limited time; and information gathering. Members of this club will work on these traits to demonstrate their skills at potential national organization conferences (NSDA). How often the debate club would meet is yet to be determined. As of right now, there is interest in a possible debate club by both teachers and students. However, finding a sponsor has been a barrier. A few teachers were interviewed and took some interest in the proposal but unfortunately do not have the time available for sponsoring a club. If you find yourself in a similar position to mine, we invite you to do the same. Talk to your advisor to expand your idea in more concrete terms!
