There is misinformation all over the world! Jeffrey Epstein and his recently released documents are not an exception. Jeffrey Epstein has been all over the news lately, but the first question you need to ask yourself is: Who is he and why is he in the news? Jeffrey Epstein was an American financier and was charged with multiple allegations of sex-trafficking minors. He was first charged in 2006 for procuring a minor for prostitution and solicitation of a prostitute. Epstein was arrested in July of 2019 and was found dead in August of 2019 due to suicide; so why is he back in the news?

A New York federal judge ordered the unsealing of the Epstein court document in early 2024 and now we are here. So, what was found out? According to PBS, the documents detailed Epstein's sexual abuse as well as the trafficking of underage girls, as well as 150 people who were in contact with Epstein whether they were victims' accomplices or acquaintances. Now many people are speculating Epstein's acquaintances to have engaged in the crimes he had committed such as the sexual abuse of minors or even helping Epstein in the traffic of underage girls. Some of the acquaintances you may recognize are Steven Halkin, former President Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew, George Lucas, Donald Trump, and Michael Jackson -- just to name a few. So, does that mean they did anything wrong? No. Names within the documents can be in there for many different reasons such as just being in the orbit of Epstein. For example, this “orbit” could include being seen at a dinner with him. Some names are even in there just because Epstein either bragged or claimed to be friends with them. For example, in several depositions, Donald Trump was mentioned. But again, why? Epstein said that he was going to call Trump and go to his casino after not being able to land his jet in New York. They had to divert the flight and land in Atlantic City. The point is that just because they are in the documents does not mean they have done any wrongdoing.

Another example is Leonardo DiCaprio. He is in the documents because Epstein claimed to be on the phone with him to one of the victims. That is what is in the documents but what does the internet say?

If you've scrolled TikTok or X (formerly known as Twitter) lately you probably have seen people accusing these celebrities within the documents of wrongdoing or even throwing around names that don’t even come up within the real documents.

You may have seen fake lists with people's names such as Jimmy Kimmel and even Oprah Winfrey but their names were not in the documents at all. People have been stirring things up to start drama and rumors. Instead of believing the first thing we see, we all must dig deeper to find the truth. Misinformation is usually the easiest information to find.

Within media today there is a lot of bias and misinformation. It's important to take a step back and look at your sources. If it's a random person's post on X or Tik Tok, you should take it amongst yourself and fact-check them. You should go to media/news and find multiple sources that agree and or back up what you have read. The news/media is a very complex. It is a hard thing to navigate through, and the misinformation surrounding the Epstein case is no exception.
