Coraline celebrates its 15th anniversary by bringing the film back into theaters but in 3D! Fans of all ages have been waiting for this moment to happen. Especially since this movie was designed to be a 3D movie. A little history of 3D movies is that the first 3D film came out on September 27, 1922 called “The Power of Love.” So many people loved and felt more connected to the movies because of the 3D aspect. So as more directors came out with movies they brought out the 3D version to enhance the film to another level. If you didn’t catch the movie from August 15th through the 22nd, you can watch it September 6th through the 12th! As someone who has been obsessed with Coraline for years this was amazing to watch and experience. And if you haven't watched or heard of Coraline, here's the summary: Coraline and her family move into a new apartment called the Pink Palace. While exploring her new home she finds a mysterious tiny door. One night she reveals a tunnel in that tiny door that leads into a home identical to hers. In the kitchen reveals a mother that looks just like hers but then turns around to have button eyes! Coraline falls in love with the other universe and the people there, but they try to keep her there forever. Coraline must use her bravery and smartness to conquer the Other Mother and get back her old family and life.
Coraline came out on February 6, 2009. The producers of Laika wanted to give Neil Gaiman's book a lifelike feel to it and bring his characters to life. Neil Gaiman (the author of Coraline) was a huge fan of stop motion so Laika thought why not make our first animated film a stop motion!
The first time Coraline came into theaters it made $166,154,146 out of the box office!! But in 2024 it made 5 million the first TWO days!!! Overall it made $170.8 million making it the highest grossing re-release in the history of fathom events.
Tickets are $15 (since it’s the 15th anniversary) and make sure to have fun with it! Dress up, go with friends, take pictures, and enjoy the movie because you definitely won’t regret it!!
